There are a lot of places to visit in Fortaleza, but some of them you’ve never heard before as follows:

Praça do Ferreira: is the major city square, and has stores, restaurants, and movie theaters as well as plenty of benches for just sitting and watching people.
Praça José de Alencar: has plenty of greenery and is the place to catch the city’s best street performers.
Dragão do Mar culture center: The relatively new has an art museum and other modern attractions.
Museu de Arte e Cultura Popular: Rua Senador Pompeu, near the beach. Located within the Centro de Turismo, this museum, housed in a single large room, displays many fine examples of folk art as well as boats and other cultural relics.
The sunset, either from Ponte Metalica, Praia Iracema, or the beach by the fish market, Mucuripe.
Parque Ecologico do Cocó: the city’s largest, near the Iguatemi-mall.
Cathedral, city centre: The closer you get, the worse it looks, with a parking lot and all. But it still has nice mosaics. Note the span between the initial works and the inaugural mass, above the main entrance.

Fortaleza is a major fishing port and fast growing tourist destination in the northeast of Brazil.
In the centre there are a few interesting Historic buildings, including the Fortress of Nossa Senhora da Assunção, which was the origin of the city (the name Fortaleza is the Portuguese for Fortress). The Mercado Central and the Cathedral are the major sights in the area.

The best beaches are east of town. The Praia de Iracema and the Praia do Futuro are good options; the former is preferred by intellectuals, bohemians and night partiers, whereas the later is preferred by swimmers and surfers

How to get to Ceará by plane?

Ceará has a privileged location, being one of the closest Brazilian states to Europe and to North America. Access to the State is easier now with Pinto Martins International Airport in Fortaleza, inaugurated in 1998, which developed domestic and international tourism and created conditions to increase the number of airplanes arriving in Ceará. Regular flights bring visitors from Spain and Portugal. Frequently, Ceará receives charter flights from Italy, Sweden, Hungary, Netherlands, Finland, Switzerland and Poland. There are also regular domestic flights connecting Ceará and the main Brazilian capitals, such as Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
